Tula Drama Theater Appoints New Artistic Director
Zurab Nanobashvili is a director with extensive experience, having studied under notable figures and won awards like the Golden Mask.
The Tula Academic Drama Theater has a new artistic director. Starting January 2026, this position has been taken by Zurab Nanobashvili.
The new artistic director was born in Tbilisi and graduated from the directing department of the Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi State Institute of Theatre and Film. He also studied under People«s Artist of the USSR Lili Ioseliani and Gul»sunda Sikharulidze, and trained in Italy under renowned director Giorgio Strehler.
Over the years, Zurab Nanobashvili has directed several dozen plays in theaters across Russia and abroad. Some of his works have been recognized with professional awards. In particular, the play «Khanuma» at the Ivanovo Musical Theater received the National Theater Award «Golden Mask».
In addition to directing, Nanobashvili has contributed to theater education by founding the theater department at the Vologda Regional Music College.
