Russian surgeon dies in Thailand, may have witnessed rape
The 41-year-old worked as a doctor in Severo-Yeniseysky, according to reports.
A surgeon from Severo-Yeniseysky in the Krasnoyarsk region, Timofey Borisov, has died in Thailand. His former classmate Yulia announced the medic«s death on social media.
The Telegram channel Mash reported that the doctor was on holiday in Thailand during the New Year period. According to the channel, Timofey allegedly witnessed the rape of a girl, after which he was followed, «his hotel room in Pattaya was broken into and he was beaten to death».
The body of the 41-year-old doctor was found in a room at the «Devari» hotel in the Jomtien area with a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures. According to the channel, he flew to Pattaya on 6 January and died the same day.
«According to Timofey«s mother, after arriving he called home and said he had witnessed a crime—he was walking down the street and saw a man drag a female passerby into bushes and rape her. Later, representatives of the local police contacted her—they spoke about a possible murder, described his injuries, and suggested a cause,» writes Mash.
The insurance company has refused to cover the cost of transporting Timofey«s body home. The family needs 600,000 rubles (approximately $7,500 at current rates) to bring the body back. Relatives have opened a fundraiser for the transportation.
Yulia told NGS24.RU that his parents had managed to raise 160,000 rubles (approximately $2,000) in financial aid so far.
«We know exactly as many details [about the death] as everyone else, nothing different or new,» she clarified to the correspondent. «We are awaiting the final autopsy report and the investigation! We hope for the conscientiousness of the Thai police and the help of the consulate! We really want the guilty to be found and punished to the fullest extent of the law!»
The website Prodoctorov states that Timofey Borisov worked as a plastic surgeon in Yekaterinburg, but the information on his page had not been updated since 2016. Yulia told NGS24.RU that Timofey had recently been working in Severo-Yeniseysky.
«He lived and worked there, his parents are there, that«s where they will take him to be buried,» she said.
The Prodoctorov website has a page for a radiologist named Timofey Borisov who worked at the Severo-Yeniseysk District Hospital (this page was updated in 2022).
«He was our classmate, we often called him Palych,» Yulia told NGS24.RU about the deceased. «He was fun, bright, kind, the life of the party. Not a troublemaker, a doctor from God! A very positive, bright, kind, smiling, open person! This is a huge shock and horror and grief for everyone! He travelled a lot, loved life.»
The press service of the regional Ministry of Health told NGS24.RU that they could not comment on the topic and redirected inquiries to law enforcement agencies. It was not possible to obtain an immediate comment from the Investigative Committee.
In late December, there were reports about an allegedly abducted girl from Minusinsk: her father picked her up at a Moscow airport. Relatives claimed they feared she would be taken into sex slavery.
