Recall that the Makarovs have been in pretrial detention since June 5. Also, one of the brothers is accused of the 2011 murder of a 17-year-old student near the «Vuol» (Veil) cafe, and the severity of the charges could see them face up to life imprisonment. Furthermore, the very real possibility remains that the Makarovs might flee from the investigation—their younger brother Zakhar is still at large.

As reported by 56.RU, after a brawl in a cafe and a shootout near the Hilton hotel, which occurred on the night of May 30, 40-year-old businessman Petr Makeev ended up under a surgeon«s knife. Initially, the police initiated a criminal case on charges of hooliganism, but after several days of uproar on social media and in the press, the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (SKR), Alexander Bastrykin, turned his attention to the situation.

On June 4, the Makarov brothers were charged with attempted murder.

Our correspondents provided a live online feed from the hearing on the initial selection of pretrial restrictions for Yegor and Makar Makarov. All the details of that hearing are in this report. Both Makar and Yegor have since attempted to appeal the chosen pretrial restrictions, but the Orenburg Regional Court has repeatedly left both in custody.

And at the end of July, the SKR reported that one of the Makarovs had been charged with the murder near that same «Vuol» cafe in 2011. As we have already reported, it is known that this concerns Yegor. Details are here.
