Domestic Tyrant from Tomsk Region Faces Three Years in Prison

A man from the Tomsk Region will stand trial for abusing his wife. This was reported by the press service of the regional prosecutor«s office.

According to the investigation, a resident of the village of Zyryanskoye, while drunk, regularly beat and humiliated his wife. He struck her with his hands, feet, and objects, and was rude and insulting.

The woman hid the abuse: she did not report it to the police, and told doctors and colleagues that she had accidentally injured herself. For almost three years she endured the abuse — and eventually attempted to commit suicide.

The man admitted to beating his wife. He explained that he was dissatisfied with how she managed the household. He wanted to show who was in charge in the house — and deliberately tormented her to make her feel guilty.

The 43-year-old man was charged with torture (Part 1, Article 117 of the Russian Criminal Code), which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison. The criminal case has been sent to a magistrate.
