Woman dies from rabies after cat bite
A cat bite resulted in a woman«s death from rabies in the Tyumen region.
Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) reported the death of a resident of Tyumen region from rabies after a cat bite. Data on the incident was published in the region«s official publication.
«The disease is dangerous not only for animals but also for people. In December 2025, a resident of Berdyuzhsky district was bitten by a cat that had contact with a sick animal in the forest. The woman did not report the incident and did not seek medical help. Later, she died from rabies infection,» writes the official resource citing Elena Mytsik, a representative of Rospotrebnadzor.
Specialists emphasize that the fatality rate for rabies is 100%.
Note that foxes are not the only carriers of rabies in Tyumen region. Other wild animals are also among potential carriers of the virus.
