In the Rybinsky District of Yaroslavl Region, a wolf came to a village and attacked a guard dog. The incident happened on the night of January 25 in the village of Konyaevo, Arefino Rural Settlement.

«A wolf has appeared in our villages. It entered private property and mauled one of the guard dogs. In the morning, we contacted the game warden, provided footage from video cameras. The warden advised hiding the second dog and said that measures would be taken within three days,» signed the authors of the post in the group «Overheard in Rybinsk.»
It turned out that this wolf had already been seen in the Arefino District. This was first reported by the game warden, and then local residents joined the discussion.
«It was spotted in the village of Pogorelovо before the New Year,» commented Anatoly Kalinin.
The owners of the deceased dog shared their concerns. The four-legged friend was very close to the family. Now, village residents are worried about other pets.
«The dog was very dear to us. It can»t be brought back… We fear for the second dog,« added the authors of the publication.
The regional Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry responded to the problem. As told by the department, a hunt has been organized for the wolf.
«In the Arefino District, special measures have been organized to search for and harvest the wolf that attacked the dog in the village of Konyaevo. Not only game wardens but also experienced hunters, including representatives of local hunting collectives, are involved in the work,» reported the ministry.
In January, according to information from game wardens, eight wolves have already been caught in the region. The ministry«s press service said that if you encounter a wild animal, you should immediately call 112.
If a wolf is found in close proximity to a populated area or on its territory, it is necessary to report the information to the unified emergency services number 112 or to the unified duty dispatch service of Yaroslavl at 8 (4852) 40-40-40. — the information will be promptly forwarded to a hunting inspector and an authorized police officer for taking necessary measures.
Wolf attacks in cities and villages of Russia are not uncommon. For example, in Arkhangelsk Region in 2024, the beast attacked a person. In 2023, in the northern region of the country, the predator was filmed on video on one of the central streets of Velsk, and then after appeals from residents of a horticultural non-commercial partnership near Arkhangelsk, two wolves were harvested by hunters. In February, wolves were also encountered by residents of Severodvinsk: it was spotted several times in different places.
