‘A wolf has appeared in our villages. It entered private property and killed one of the guard dogs. In the morning, we contacted the game warden, provided video recordings from cameras. The game warden advised hiding the second dog and said that measures would be taken within three days,’ wrote the authors in the group ‘Overheard in Rybinsk’.

It turned out that this predator had been seen earlier in Arefino district. First, a game warden reported it, then local residents confirmed.

‘It was spotted in the village of Pogorelovo before the New Year,’ noted Anatoly Kalinin.

The owners of the deceased animal expressed bitterness over the loss. The pet was part of the family. Now, in the village, they fear for the safety of other domestic animals.

‘The dog was very dear to us. It can«t be brought back… We are afraid for the second dog,’ added in the publication.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry of Yaroslavl Region responded to the signal. It was decided to organize the shooting of the predator.

‘In Arefino district, special measures have been organized to search for and harvest the wolf that attacked the dog in the village of Konyaevo. Not only game wardens but also experienced hunters, including representatives of local hunting collectives, are involved in the work,’ stated the department.

According to game wardens, only in January, eight wolves were caught in the region. The ministry«s press service reminded that when encountering a wild animal, it is necessary to immediately call 112.

If a wolf is spotted near a populated area or on its territory, information should be reported via the unified emergency services phone number 112 or to the duty dispatch service of Yaroslavl at 8 (4852) 40-40-40. This information will be promptly forwarded to the hunting inspector and police.

Attacks by wolves on people and animals in Russian villages and cities occur regularly. For example, in Arkhangelsk region in 2024, a predator attacked a person. In 2023, in Velsk, a wolf was filmed on video on the central street, and near Arkhangelsk, hunters eliminated two individuals after residents« complaints. In February of the same year, a wolf was seen several times in Severodvinsk.
