Veterinary surgeons removed embedded chain links from the dog«s neck during a rescue operation.
Veterinarians from the Ivan-teevskaya District Station for Combating Animal Diseases (SBBZh) rescued a dog named Pirat, whose chain links had grown into its neck. This was reported by the station itself.
The two-year-old dog from the village of Chernava was admitted to the veterinary clinic after the chain it was kept on twisted and got under the collar. During the examination, doctors found that three chain links had grown into the skin to a depth of about 1 cm (0.4 inches).
«The veterinary surgeon performed an incision of the animal»s skin to extract the chain links, and the wound was treated with antiseptic solutions,« the report notes. To avoid suppuration, it was decided not to suture the wound—it will heal naturally. The dog»s owners were given detailed recommendations for pet care.
Simultaneously, the veterinary service of the region is conducting a large-scale campaign to vaccinate animals against rabies. Since the beginning of 2026, about 5,000 agricultural and domestic animals have been vaccinated. In the last week alone, in Krasnopartizansky District, over 4,500 head of cattle and 423 dogs and cats have been vaccinated.
Specialists remind that rabies is a deadly disease for both animals and humans. The only effective method of prevention is timely vaccination of pets.
