As told to NGS70.RU by volunteer Natalia Savinova, a distressing story spread on social media about cats dying in an unheated house in the Tomsk village of Desyatovo. Local residents wrote that the owner was hospitalized, and her 25 animals were left unattended. They spent an entire month without proper care. Neighbors tried to feed the unfortunate animals through a pipe in the window, but it wasn«t enough. Natalia, along with other Tomsk volunteers, went to the scene.

‘We thought we would save at least one cat. The house was open, we entered. There was complete unsanitary conditions, but thankfully no corpses, all were alive. We immediately fed and watered the poor animals. We immediately started spreading the call everywhere, to all animal communities, that the cats needed to be placed. On the first day, we distributed 12 cats to hospitals and foster homes. At the hospital, they told us the cats were dehydrated, very emaciated. All have ear mites,’ said Natalia Savinova.

Another 13 cats from the hellish house were evacuated by volunteers from the group ‘Animal Rescue in the Frost.’ One volunteer found a suitable warm room for the animals. Now the cats are safe. Compassionate Tomsk residents brought them everything necessary: food, litter boxes, feeders, houses, and beds.

‘A huge thank you to all Tomsk residents. Nothing like this has happened before, where people united so quickly. Currently, we have 16 cats under our care. None of them are in critical condition. They need to be placed in good homes after they recover and complete a two-week quarantine,’ said Natalia Savinova.
