Perm shelter seeks home for chubby cat Stepan

The three-year-old cat spends time with his plush fish and small balls from home.
A very plump shanezhka cat (round Ural bun), Stepan, has arrived at Perm’s Murkot animal shelter. His former owner once rescued Stepan from the street and took him in. Now the young man is moving to another city and couldn’t take the pet with him. Stepan is taking the separation very hard and spends his days with the toys brought from his former home — a plush fish and little balls.
The director of Murkot, Natalya Vodoleyeva, told 59.RU that the cat Stepan arrived at their shelter this past weekend.
«The owner said he is leaving the city, absolutely cannot take the cat with him, and has no relatives or acquaintances,» — she said.
Just three years ago, a 22-year-old man found Stepa in a box on the street. He couldn’t walk past and kept the cat. This year he is moving to live in another city and brought the pet to the shelter.
«There is absolutely no one to leave him with. I could bring lots of food, his toys, a wooden house, litter, and help a little financially, — wrote Stepan’s former owner to the shelter. — I would very much like him to find a new family, but, alas, I don’t have many acquaintances in this city.»
Over the weekend, Stepan moved into Murkot. His favorite balls and plush fish came with him. The cat won’t let a shelter employee near, hisses at her, and is under stress. For now, he has been placed in quarantine, separate from the shelter’s other wards.

Shelter staff note hissing and stress while he adjusts after being surrendered by his owner.
«The cat was very attached to his owner, — added Natalya. — Now we will try to find him a new home, new people and, we hope, a new life. Please take responsibility for your pets and remember how important it is to give them stability and care.»
Stepan is three years old; he is neutered, vaccinated, and non‑pedigreed.
