A passenger who returned from Vietnam to Krasnoyarsk had a taxidermied Siamese crocodile confiscated, according to the press service of the Siberian Customs Administration.

The woman arrived on a flight from Nha Trang to Krasnoyarsk. During customs baggage inspection, they found a taxidermy weighing 1.6 kilograms (3.5 pounds) and 105 centimeters (3 feet 5 inches) long. She explained that she bought it as a souvenir and did not know that it needed to be declared upon entry and that a permit was required.

An examination confirmed that it is a taxidermied Siamese crocodile, which falls under the CITES Convention (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).

Based on this incident, two administrative offense cases were initiated under Part 1 of Article 16.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (failure to declare goods) and Article 16.3 (non-compliance with prohibitions and restrictions). The offender faces a fine and confiscation of the goods.
