Orenburg Officials Allocate Funds for Stray Dog Capture in 2026

After a stray dog attack on children in Yasny led to a criminal case, officials in Orenburg Region have apparently finally become active — Governor Evgeny Solntsev has taken personal control of the situation, ordered the introduction of an emergency regime in several municipalities, and a meeting was held yesterday in the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the government, 82.6 million rubles (about $826,000 at current rates) have been allocated in the draft regional budget for 2026 to capture stray dogs, and this should be enough for 7,937 animals.
As of January 23, contracts for dog capture have already been signed in 17 municipalities of the region, in 6 agreements are being formalized, in 13 tenders have only been announced, and in another 6, work has not yet reached the active stage. These are the Dombarovsky, Kvarkensky, Oktyabrsky, Svetlinsky, Tashlinsky and Tyulgansky districts.
— A number of municipalities need to intensify their work in the shortest possible time. The issue is under constant supervision. Heads of municipalities should not delay in concluding contracts and conducting necessary measures, — said First Vice-Governor Sergey Balykin.
