Novosibirsk Pet Owners Showcase Cats After World Competition

Novosibirsk residents shared photos of their pets after the World Cat Federation selected the best representative of the family — a Russian Abyssinian cat. Let«s see which fluffy ones can compete with the winner, according to NGS readers.
Helga
Alexey sent NGS a photo of his pet — Helga. She will turn 4 years old on March 11. The cat was bought as a birthday gift for his mother on a classified ads website for 300 rubles (about $3 at current rates).
«This is the second cat in our family; before her, there was a cat named Mikhail, who lived for 18.5 years and, unfortunately, died in May 2013. We didn»t plan to get cats, but after my mother had coronavirus in 2020, I decided she would be happier with a pet,« Alexey says.

Helga is calm and smart. Compared to the previous cat, she is more fearless: he was afraid of the vacuum cleaner, drill, and any loud sounds, but she doesn«t run away; instead, she shows interest.
Diva
Reader Nikolai sent a photo of his cat Diva, a Neva Masquerade breed. She is 5 years old and celebrates her birthday in February.

Fox
Siberian resident Inna recalls that three years ago, teenagers brought her a kitten that had just opened its eyes, saying that its owner didn«t want it.
«My husband and I took him in, getting up every two hours to feed him. And so he stayed with us, our handsome boy! The children said it was a girl and wanted to name her Alice, but it turned out to be a boy — so we named him Fox,» Inna says.

Asya
Scottish Fold Asya is 2 years old. She was bought on a classified ads website — it was impossible to resist her cute photo.
«She loves to sleep in the sink. Sit on her bottom. And take photos against the backdrop of relatives. She loves sitting on the refrigerator, drinking tap water, helps with the laundry, and when she»s tired, she sleeps wherever she wants,« Yevgeny describes his cat»s behavior.
Red
Maria recalls that she was visiting someone, got ready to go home, called a taxi, and while waiting, she saw a red ball of fur and took the kitten for herself.
«He crawled under my jacket, and so we went home. He had a lot of fleas. They could have taken him somewhere if they wanted. We washed him, combed him, treated his eye; he also had ear mites. He grew up to be a red handsome boy,» Maria shares.

Semyon Tatyanovich
Reader Tatyana found the cat at a very young age. He will be 9 years old on April 12 of this year.
«The cat»s name in the passport is Semyon Tatyanovich. The veterinarian said that there were Brits in his pedigree,« Tatyana explains. »Semyon has frostbitten both ears. We used to have a private house, and once Semyon, as an avid hunter, slipped out unnoticed through the garage attached to the house, following my husband who was leaving; the gates closed automatically. And Semyon was left outside in -40°C (-40°F).«

When the owner discovered he was missing, it was already too late: the frost had nipped the tips of his ears, and they couldn«t be saved.
«When Semyon goes to the village for summer vacation, almost every morning he goes out to the path where people walk to work, sits, and waits for passersby to pet him. He gets his dose of affection and returns home,» Tatyana notes.
Mercury
Reader Yelena told about her Mercury; the cat recently turned 9 years old.
«He is of Siberian breed from producers, type — Neva Masquerade. He has a passport, junior cups from breeders, but we never exhibited him and even had him neutered at a young age because there was a sad experience of the tragic death of such a cat many years ago, and we still grieve over it,» Yelena shares.

According to Yelena, the pet has a great time. The owner jokes that sometimes the cat thinks he is the owner of the house.
«He goes outside to hunt for birds and mice. In summer, he walks often; in other seasons, only based on some feelings known only to him. In rain, frost, or snow — he won»t go out for anything. In summer, he loves to swing and meditate on garden swings with his owner,« Yelena describes Mercury»s life.

The owner adds that the cat is very kind, affectionate, and trusting. In 9 years, he has never scratched, bitten, or hissed at anyone. He loves having his belly scratched but absolutely cannot stand sitting in arms. When it comes to food, Mercury is a gourmet.
«Among treats, he will choose cheese, preferring moldy cheese (white, blue); from fish — tuna in any form,» Yelena notes.
Dmitry Alexandrovich
Dmitry Alexandrovich, also known as Mitya, is the cat of NGS journalist Maria Tishchenko.
