New enclosures in Amodovo ready for bears, wolves, and foxes

Enclosures for bears, wolves, and foxes at the Amodovo zoo nursery in Chita District, Zabaykalsky Krai, built as part of a large-scale reconstruction, are ready for animals to move in, Alexander Zudilov, head of the urban development policy committee of the city administration, reported on January 26.
“The enclosures where bears, wolves, and foxes will be housed are fully ready. We are prepared for the animals to move in this spring,” Zudilov said.
He explained that the total amount required for the zoo nursery reconstruction is about one billion rubles (approximately $11.1 million at current rates), and only part of it has been completed at this stage.
“And in 2026, they will build more for lynxes and birds of prey. Plans include improvements up to market rows, as well as a veterinary clinic and a manure storage facility. Such things that are needed for maintenance,” the committee head added.
Amodovo is a subdivision of the Chita City Zoo, located in Chita District. Reconstruction is underway at the nursery and the city zoo. The planned renovation became known in May 2024. By the end of the year, they completed the project sketch and design-estimate documentation, and received expert conclusions.
The work is being carried out in two stages. The first stage planned the construction of new enclosure complexes for bears, pumas, leopards, lynxes, deer, roe deer, wolves, and foxes. After the relocation of large animals, at the site of the city zoo on Zhuravleva Street, they plan to build an exotarium. The funding issue has not yet been resolved.
The contract for the first stage of the Amodovo renovation, worth 377.3 million rubles (approximately $4.2 million at current rates), was concluded with LLC ARM-1, owned by Garik Mazmanyan. The company was formed in 2018, and its revenue at the end of 2024 was 442.7 million rubles (approximately $4.9 million), with a net profit of 119 thousand rubles (approximately $1,322).
