Man drags dog by car, leaves it to die

In late January, on a highway in the Bolshoye Boldino district, volunteers accidentally discovered a brutally mutilated dog. The animal was covered in blood, with deep wounds on its limbs and torn-off claws. It was immediately taken to a veterinary clinic.

Specialists who examined the dog were shocked by the scale of the injuries. According to animal rights activists, due to severe stress, even anesthesia did not work on the dog. «What hellish pain she experienced — one can only imagine,» wrote the well-known Nizhny Novgorod animal rights activist Lara Saplina.

Activists filed a report with the police. Already on January 28, the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the detention of a suspect. It turned out to be a 62-year-old resident of the village of Sergeevka, the dog«s owner. The man admitted that he wanted to get rid of the pet and for this, he dragged it 400 meters on asphalt with a Lada car, moving at a speed of 60 km/h.

After that, he tied the beaten animal in bushes by the road and left it to die in the cold. A criminal case has been opened against the Nizhny Novgorod man. He faces punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to three years.
