Horse Club Owner Accuses Police of Silence in Acid Attack

In the satellite city of Volgograd, Volzhsky, one of the owners of the \«By the Lake\» horse club fears that the criminal case over the poisoning of her horses might go quiet, and the animal abuser will remain unpunished. According to Yaroslava Petrenko, law enforcement officers do not inform the club owners about the investigation«s progress until they start \»beating down the doors\« of the police station.

Recall that in April, an animal abuser broke into the \«By the Lake\» horse club and killed two horses: Sultan died within hours, and Lavr, although showing small signs of recovery, died a week later. According to Yaroslava, the horses were given some injection. The \«unknown\» animal abuser is only unknown to the public—the club owners know very well who this person is, but do not want to reveal his identity.

In December, according to Yaroslava, the same person broke into the stable and \«poured acid into the horses» mouths\«. Later, the police detained a suspect in the April incident and were checking if he was the one who broke into the horse club»s territory in winter. Then, the suspect was released from temporary detention with a preventive measure in the form of an obligation to appear.

First of all, Yaroslava talked about how the affected horses are feeling.

— The condition of all the horses is stable, good. The only thing: one horse had acid not only splashed into its mouth but also poured on its side, and we are still battling wounds on its side. The healing process after this filth is very complex, but it«s fine—the horse is stable, the horse eats, drinks, and receives all necessary treatment.

According to Yaroslava, the investigation into the April incident is ongoing: a criminal case has been initiated, necessary measures are being taken, and the club owners are kept informed.

— As for the case that was not so long ago—the poisoning of horses with acid… Some lull has occurred there,— admits Yaroslava. — For some reason, law enforcement officers are starting to avoid me and Kristina (the other owner. — Ed.) again. Not so much avoiding, but rather not informing us. Only because I persistently called and knocked, I was notified on January 12 about the transfer of the case to the main department for our city. And that«s it. I don»t know anything more about this case. No one has handed me a resolution on initiating a criminal case, no one contacts me, and no information is provided about the investigation«s progress. Of course, we will be beating down the doors again, but we would like some more respectful attitude towards our situation.

For the safety of the horses, Yaroslava says, certain measures have been taken at the horse club, which she does not want to talk about yet.

— Essentially, only people in a very close circle know all these details. A bit later, I will show what we have done visually, just don«t want to list it now. Those who come to us see for themselves how the work is progressing. Because we understand that, apparently, no one wants to protect us except ourselves. We perfectly understand that this person is aiming for us to close in disgrace. On one hand, why should we run from him? Why the person remains unpunished for his malicious deeds is unclear to us. We would like protection to come not only from us but also from law enforcement agencies precisely because this person»s impunity is pushing him to even more malicious deeds. What might pop into his head next time, we are even afraid to think.
