Zabaikalsky Prosecutor Veterans Help Establish Memorial in DNR

Veterans of the Zabaikalsky prosecutor«s office financially assisted in the creation of the Alley of Glory in the village of Novy Svet, Starobeshevsky District of the Donetsk People»s Republic (DNR), which is patronized by Zabaikalsky Krai. This was reported on October 27 in his Telegram channel by the governor of the region Alexander Osipov.
“Zabaikalsky Krai assisted in the creation of this memorial in the village of Novy Svet. Our region«s prosecutor veterans made their feasible contribution. For each of us, it is important to remember our defenders, honor their memory, and be worthy of their feat,” wrote the governor.
The chairman of the Council of the Veterans Organization of the Zabaikalsky Krai Prosecutor«s Office, Valery Popov, informed the correspondent of “Chita.Ru” that his organization allocated 100,000 rubles (approximately $1,000 at current rates) for the creation of the memorial. However, the lion»s share of the work rests on the shoulders of three former servicemen: Alexey Bogomol and brothers Valentin and Alexander Kotolevets.
“The Alley of Glory is a symbol of eternal memory for the guys who gave their lives in the special military operation zone. Alexey, Valentin, and Alexander — these three men, united by common pain and a deep sense of duty, took on the difficult but sacred mission of immortalizing the names of the fallen heroes,” noted Popov.
Alexey Bogomol, in a conversation with the correspondent of “Chita.Ru,” said that he participated in combat operations since 2014. In 2022, he again volunteered for the special military operation, and in 2023, he was discharged due to injury.
“After 2014, I had already erected a monument to the deceased civilians and militiamen of the village of Novy Svet. And in 2023, I returned and realized how many of our guys had died. The idea arose to erect a different monument. Together with the ataman (Cossack leader) of the Novosvetskaya Cossack village, Valentin Kotolevets — he also participated in battles once — we went to the head of the Starobeshevsky District, Nikolai Mikhailov, and he supported the idea. We chose a location. There was a neglected alley behind the cultural center. And we decided to place it right here. Valentin suggested cranes. We mostly worked together. From metal, with an angle grinder. Then we sketched out the overall concept, came back to Nikolai Petrovich, showed it. And then we approached the families of the deceased and those whose relatives are currently on combat duty, to the civilian population. People believed in us and started contributing money,” the interlocutor of the publication said.
According to him, Zabaikalsky residents indeed made their contribution. The memorial creators sent the project and an approximate estimate to the region. And then they received financial support.
“As the saying goes, every little helps. Thank you to them, and to the families of the deceased, and to the civilians. Even grandmothers from their pensions sent 100 rubles (approximately $1) and 150 rubles (approximately $2). And for that, we thanked them. 100 rubles is 2.5 letters of a surname engraved on a plaque. And we did everything in garages, then brought the finished structures to the alley. We ourselves came up with the picture on a 2-meter (6 ft 7 in) stone. It wasn«t so easy to find and deliver it. There, in the foreground, a warrior-defender holds the hand of a rescued girl. <…> At the moment, there are 86 surnames on the plaques. Not all parents came and verified the data. We collected bit by bit. As much as we could, we collected. <…> Also, Valentin and I were helped by his brother Alexander, who returned without an arm. So, basically, we did everything working together,” noted Alexey Bogomol.

Zabaikalsky Krai together with Buryatia have taken patronage over the restoration of Starobeshevsky District of the Donetsk People«s Republic. In particular, they are helping to restore social facilities, including schools and kindergartens.
