Vietnamese Student in Omsk Wants to Stay After Graduation

The Vietnamese student experiences study difficulties owing to his poor Russian language proficiency.
Vo Tien Nguyen, a Vietnamese student studying marketing at Omsk State University named after Fyodor Dostoevsky, shared his experiences of living in Omsk. The interview was published in the university«s VKontakte community.
His parents live in Omsk, which is why he chose to study there. He says he enjoys the local climate and the people.
“In Vietnam, the climate is warm and humid, while here the air is fresh and cool almost all year round. Although I haven«t gotten used to the severe frosts yet, the first winter was tough. Russian people, in my opinion, are very kind, sincere, and straightforward. They say what they think, but always with respect.”
Studying in Russia is not easy for the young man. The biggest difficulties arise from insufficient knowledge of the language. However, he does not plan to return to Vietnam after graduation.
“After finishing my studies, I would like to stay. I think that the knowledge I«m gaining here is best applied in the Russian environment, since the curriculum was created for this country. Moreover, living and working in a different culture helps with personal development, broadening horizons, and learning to see things from different perspectives.”
