Russia to loan Yakutia $102M for 2026 northern supply run

Yakutia will receive a loan of 10 billion rubles ($102 million) from the federal budget to ensure the northern delivery operation in 2026. According to 2025 data, over 70,000 tons of cargo have been transported to Arctic regions. The head of the republic, Aisen Nikolayev, announced this during a live broadcast on the GTRK Sakha television channel.
Last year, a loan of 4.9 billion rubles ($50 million) was allocated for the same purpose. The republic must repay the funds by the end of the year, but according to Nikolayev, such loans are much more advantageous than those from commercial banks, where the interest rate can be 20%. This money also helps to restrain prices for socially important food goods.
«Last year we received 4.9 billion rubles, this year we are already receiving 10 billion rubles, and we are talking about allocating an additional 5 billion,» said Nikolayev.
The task for 2026 also includes ensuring the spring delivery. The Arctic Trade and Logistics Company must deliver about 5,000 tons of food. Thirteen Arctic trade and logistics centers have already been built in the region, with the last one scheduled to open in the first quarter.
According to Nikolayev, it is important not only to complete construction but also to ensure a constant turnover of goods so that warehouses are not empty, neither in winter nor in summer.
