Once, deputies proposed renaming funny, amusing, and for some offensive names of settlements. In Volgograd Oblast, these include the hamlets of Popki, Siskovsky, Gryaznukha, Lopukhovka, and others. Meanwhile, in neighboring Saratov Oblast, there is the unique village of Lokh, which attracts tourists from across Russia — at the very least, to take photos with the settlement«s name sign, which is stolen more often than any other in Russia.

Additionally, the area boasts incredible picturesque views, a cave, and an old temple that locals restored themselves. The residents, known as Lokhovchane, have put themselves on the map and turned the settlement»s proud name into a brand.

“Villages in modern Russia are increasingly seen as dying relics. But it turns out things can be different. Lokh has managed to literally revive itself in just a couple of years. With its unique nature, streams, and hills, one could easily ignore it all. But the people took it upon themselves to equip trails, put up signs, and even install a rope. The deteriorating temple and mill — one might complain about official indifference until the foundations collapse. But the residents started restoration with their own resources. There are tours to the apiary, horse pens, and a pottery workshop. All of it is on display, and it’s genuinely interesting to see. Lokh became what it is not because of officials, but because of ordinary people. All it took was uniting efforts. Seeing the village and neighbors as home and family — something worth fighting for and sacrificing for,”
