Wind speed factored as nearly 100 schools close in Saratov due to cold

In 97 schools across 10 municipal districts of Saratov region, schools were closed due to abnormal cold. This was reported on January 23 by the press service of the region«s education ministry. It is worth noting that these are mainly rural settlements and small towns.

This concerns students in grades 1–4 in 26 schools in Voskresensky, Rtishchevsky, and Khvalynsky districts. The restrictions also affected students in grades 1–6 in another 52 schools across 9 municipalities. These are Bazarno-Karabuksky, Balashovsky, Voskresensky, Krasnopartizansky, Pugachyovsky, Rtishchevsky, Samoilovsky, and Fedorovsky districts, as well as the settlement of Mikhaylovsky.

In certain settlements where temperatures were recorded lower than in district centers, classes were canceled from grades 1 to 11. In 17 schools in Krasnokutsky district, classes were canceled for students in grades 1–8, in one school in Rtishchevsky municipality for grades 1–9, and in Baltaysky district, one school was completely closed.

The education ministry also noted that, in addition to air temperature, wind speed and other meteorological conditions were taken into account when deciding to close schools. The closure data is provided only for January 23.
