More than 100 units of special equipment are on standby on federal roads in the Transbaikal region amid severe frosts, Chita.Ru reported on January 21, citing the press service of the Federal State Institution Road Administration «Zabaikalye» (FSI Upradar «Zabaikalye»).
According to the Transbaikal Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, severe frost with air temperatures of -45 degrees Celsius (-49°F) and below is expected in the region from January 21 to 23. Contract organizations of FSI Upradar «Zabaikalye» are ready to work in enhanced mode, the organization said.
To ensure safe and uninterrupted traffic, 101 special vehicles have been prepared: graders, combined road machines, loaders, and other equipment.
Specialists monitor road conditions and weather using modern online weather stations. Currently, 63 such stations are operational.
Road workers« activities are monitored around the clock. They check the condition of vehicles on the roads and assist drivers if a car breaks down or freezes. Road workers have all necessary supplies: hot tea, felt boots, and blankets.
In case of an emergency on federal roads in the region, drivers can call the dispatcher of FSI Upradar «Zabaikalye» at the 24-hour phone number: 8 (3022) 36-49-96.
Upradar «Zabaikalye» urges drivers to drive more carefully in winter. To avoid accidents, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, choose speed according to weather conditions, and avoid sudden movements. Before a trip, check your car: engine, fuel, battery. Bring warm clothing, food, and water.
The Main Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia for the Transbaikal Krai told Chita.Ru that mobile heating points are on constant standby and will be deployed if necessary. If any resident of the region finds themselves in a situation where, for example, a car has broken down on the highway, they should call the emergency services numbers: 101 or 112.
