In the coming days, the Perm region will be hit by severe frosts down to -42°C (-44°F). The regional Emergency Ministry has even issued a storm warning.

Emergency messages were sent to Perm residents via the MChS app. The ministry also appealed to residents of the krai on social media.

«On 20 and 25 January in some areas, and from 21 to 24 January across the entire Perm Krai, abnormally cold weather is expected with average daily air temperatures 7 degrees or more below the climatic norm,» warned the MChS. «At night and in the morning on 23–24 January, severe frost from -40 to -42°C (-40 to -44°F) is expected in some parts of the krai.»

Residents of the Perm region were reminded of the main dangers that increase in such weather: hypothermia and frostbite, fires, and accidents on utility systems.

Specialists from the Main Directorate of the MChS for Perm Krai recommended that residents of the region:

  • observe all safety measures;

  • avoid going outside in the frost unless absolutely necessary and not let children go for walks. If you must go out, dress warmly;

  • when heating premises, observe fire safety requirements. Do not overload electrical networks with too many connected devices, and do not use faulty equipment or homemade heaters for heating;

  • strictly observe fire safety requirements when using stoves and avoid overheating them. Do not place flammable or combustible substances near stoves;

  • never leave a stove unattended while it is being fired or leave electrical appliances switched on without supervision;

  • drivers should strictly observe traffic rules and speed limits, and avoid long trips if possible.

Earlier, Andrei Shikhov provided a weather forecast for the Perm region for the entire week.
