Perm braces for powerful snowstorm tomorrow, Andrei Shikhov clarifies forecast

Street cleaners in Perm are preparing for a heavy workload due to the forecasted snowstorm.
In Perm, snow has been falling since yesterday, but on January 30, the city will be hit by a much heavier snowstorm. According to Doctor of Geographical Sciences Andrei Shikhov, it could become the strongest since the beginning of winter. The forecaster provided an updated forecast for tomorrow.
At the beginning of this week, Andrei Shikhov told 59.RU that on Friday, January 30, Perm will experience long-awaited warming, but the city will be buried in snow. The Doctor of Geographical Sciences said that in Perm, more than 20 centimeters (7.9 inches) of snow will fall, and in the south of the Perm region (Prikamye) — up to 30 centimeters (11.8 inches). Today in his Telegram channel «Dangerous Natural Phenomena of Perm Krai,» Andrei Shikhov explained that the heavy snowfall will begin already on the night of Friday.
The forecaster in a conversation with 59.RU clarified that the heaviest snowfalls are approaching Prikamye from the direction of Chuvashia and Tatarstan and will cover the region today around 21:00. Until that time, the weather will hardly change: in Perm and the region, moderate snowfall will continue, in the south of the region it will be strong in places.
«In Perm, another 4-6 millimeters of precipitation will fall during the day. At the same time, it will warm up a bit: by evening, temperatures are expected to reach up to -10 °C (14 °F) in Perm, up to -8 °C (18 °F) in the south of the region, and up to -18 °C (-0 °F) in the north,» writes Andrei Shikhov in his Telegram channel.
A heavy snowfall will cover Prikamye on the night of January 30. The height of snowdrifts in Perm on Friday morning may exceed 70 centimeters (27.6 inches). According to Andrei Shikhov, over 24 hours, even accounting for the compaction of previously fallen snow, up to 10 centimeters (3.9 inches) will be added.
