Long-awaited warming arrives in Kuzbass with smiling forecast

The forecasted rise in temperatures may allow residents to enjoy outdoor activities again.
Arctic frosts with abnormally low temperatures are retreating from Kuzbass. The thermometer will rise above -20°C (-4°F) for the first time in the last seven days, according to a forecast published on January 21 by the Kemerovo Hydrometeorological Center.
The night into Wednesday will not be as cold as in recent days. With the onset of dusk, temperatures outside will drop to -23…-28°C (-9…-18°F), locally to -34°C (-29°F). In the southern part of Kuzbass, real warming will arrive with temperatures down to -17…-22°C (1…-8°F).
During the day, the air will warm up to a pleasant -14…-19°C (7…-2°F). In some areas, forecasters predict spring-like temperatures of -7…-12°C (19…10°F).
However, the smog that plagues residents along with the frost will not disappear. Due to calm winds, haze will still linger on the streets. But drivers should be careful not only because of poor visibility; black ice will also persist.
The middle of the week will be cloudy and mostly without precipitation. During the day, along with the warmth, light snow may come to the region.
In Kemerovo, colder weather is expected than in the region as a whole. At night, specialists forecast temperatures from -26 to -28°C (-15…-18°F). During the day, the thermometer will still creep up and reach -15…-17°C (5…1°F).
During the frost that tested the resilience of Kuzbass residents, the people of Yurga were left without proper heating supply, as the editorial board of NGS42.RU learned. Authorities confirmed new problems with fuel and the switch of boilers to gas, for which the station has huge multi-million ruble debts (equivalent to tens of thousands of dollars at current rates).
