Frosts to plunge Tyumen Oblast to -40°C

Meteorologists from the Ob-Irtysh Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring reported on the upcoming intensification of frosts in Tyumen Oblast. The abnormally cold period will last several days.
According to the forecast, on the night of Friday, 23 January, thermometers may drop to −40°C (−40°F). Wind is expected at up to 7 m/s, with no significant precipitation anticipated. During the day, the temperature will rise to approximately −26°C (−15°F).
A similar pattern will repeat on the night of Saturday, 24 January: again, forecasts predict down to −40°C (−40°F). The wind will remain southerly, with its strength not exceeding 7 m/s. During the day, the air will warm up to −25°C (−13°F), with no snow expected.
On Sunday night, 25 January, the frost will weaken slightly but will still be strong – down to −37°C (−35°F). At the same time, the wind will strengthen to 9 m/s. During the day, forecasters promise light snow and a temperature around −23°C (−9°F).
Specialists from the Ob-Irtysh UGMS state: «Abnormally cold weather is expected until 25 January.»
Separately, in the forecast for Tyumen, the service «Yandex Weather» indicates nighttime frosts down to −30°C (−22°F) in the next two days. Daytime warming will be insignificant. Truly frosty weather, according to forecasts, will retreat only in the middle of next week, when the temperature stabilizes above the −10°C (14°F) mark.
Due to extremely low temperatures in the region, in-person classes in schools are being suspended. The decision to cancel classes is made in accordance with approved rules.
