«Attention parents and students of educational institutions! Today, due to low outdoor air temperature, classes for the second shift in Tyumen schools for students in grades 1–4 in person are canceled,» the city hall stated.
The decision is related to a sharp cold snap. Meteorologists had previously warned that the air temperature in the Tyumen region would drop below -30 degrees Celsius (-22°F). For the region, frosts during the Epiphany period are common, but on the holiday itself, warm weather allowed for traditional ice-hole swimming.
Arctic cold was already observed in the region two weeks ago. At that time, due to difficult weather conditions, duty patrols by law enforcement were organized on highways to assist drivers.
