Blizzard to Hit Arkhangelsk Oblast; Weather Outlook
Strong winds are forecasted to accompany the blizzard in Arkhangelsk Oblast, increasing hazards.
Although severe cold has eased, Arkhangelsk Oblast remains frosty. However, residents shouldn«t celebrate yet as a blizzard and strong winds are expected, according to forecasters from the Northern Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Severny UGMS).
In Pomorye (the historical region of Arkhangelsk Oblast), the weather will be cloudy with clearings. In some places, light to moderate snow will fall. In isolated areas, blizzard conditions and ice-frost deposits are expected. The wind will be westerly and southwesterly at 4-9 m/s, with gusts up to 14 m/s in places.
Daytime temperatures will range from -5 to -10 °C (23 to 14 °F).
During the week, temperatures are set to drop again in Arkhangelsk Oblast. Forecasters report that after a warm weekend, the frosts will intensify.
«Next week, cyclonic weather will predominate, so snow is expected in most areas. By mid-week, the frosts will intensify again,» reports Severny UGMS.
Temperatures are expected to drop to -13 to -18 °C (9 to 0 °F), and with clearings, to -25 to -30 °C (-13 to -22 °F).
