Frosts have gripped Yugra for several weeks, with temperatures reaching an abnormal –38 to –44 degrees Celsius (–36 to –47 degrees Fahrenheit). After the noisy New Year holidays, the cities seem to have frozen under a crust of ice and a snowy blanket. We show you what they look like now.

Surgut photographer Alexander Shumay went to the GRES (state district power plant) for beautiful shots. Steam rising above the water, bushes and trees covered in hoarfrost, untouched pillows of snowdrifts, and white power line poles create the feeling of being in an icy apocalypse.

Photographer Helen Voznesenskaya showed how Surgut looks in its snowy blanket. Church domes, the monument to the builders, and webs of branches—everything has turned white, as in a winter fairy tale. The city is also adorned by decorative illumination, which only enhances the sense of magic.

In Nizhnevartovsk, despite the frosts, life is bustling. In the snowy haze, city lights flash, windows of colorful houses, and even the northern lights, which delighted residents for several nights. The residents themselves are running, driving, and walking on the frozen Ob River, as seen by the public page «Typical Crab of Nizhnevartovsk».
