Tyumen city council proposes naming street after Vladimir Zhirinovsky

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who died in April 2022, was a long-serving Russian politician with a history of controversial proposals.
An unnamed street in the Mys district may be named after Vladimir Zhirinovsky. The issue of assigning the name will be decided at a meeting of the relevant commission.
«At the next meeting of the commission <…> the proposal of deputy D.L. Oshurkov from the single-mandate constituency of the Tyumen City Duma to assign the name of Vladimir Volfovich Zhirinovsky to an unnamed element of the street-road network will be considered,» the administration of the city of Tyumen reported.
According to the attached scheme, this refers to a street located between the hypermarket «Lenta» and the first complex of skyscrapers along Tobolsk Tract.
During his lifetime, the controversial Russian politician did not often interact with our region. However, one of his statements about the Tyumen region caused quite a stir at the time. This refers to the proposal to make the Tyumen region, Yugra, and Yamal a single federal subject, depriving the latter of their status as autonomous okrugs.
