Sochi traffic police file 11 cases over poor snow clearance

The Sochi traffic police have initiated 11 administrative offense cases against contracting organizations and road management authorities, including local self-government bodies, citing numerous instances of improper winter maintenance of the resort«s street and road network. The cases were opened under Part 1 of Article 12.34 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses, which covers non-compliance with road safety requirements in road maintenance.
According to the city traffic police, the violations of regulatory requirements occurred due to improper planning of winter road maintenance activities and poor road cleaning work during heavy snowfall.
Those responsible for the condition of the roads face fines: officials from 20,000 to 30,000 rubles (approximately $220 to $330 at current rates), and legal entities from 200,000 to 300,000 rubles (approximately $2,200 to $3,300 at current rates).
