The under-construction metro station on the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line in Kuntsevo has been renamed: its project name was «Ilyinskaya». Now it will be called «Novorizhskaya,» announced Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

The Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya metro line (number 17) will run from «Business Center» through Khoroshevo-Mnevniki and Strogino in western Moscow, then to the fifth kilometer of Novorizhskoye Highway. The station «Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye» is the second after «Lipovaya Roshcha» outside the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD), it is being built in the eponymous microdistrict in Kuntsevo.

But not all Muscovites appreciated the changes. They believe it will be harder to navigate the metro since there is already a station called «Rizhskaya».

«Why change the names? Well, can you just explain the logic to people?», wrote city resident Petr.

«At the design and construction stage, this is par for the course,» explained another Muscovite to him. «It can be assumed that the name »Novorizhskaya« says more about the station»s location than «Ilyinskaya».«

«It»s as if they intentionally name stations to confuse them. «Rizhskaya – Novorizhskaya». Why did they rename Suvorovskaya to Dostoevskaya for some reason?«, wonders another.

Recently, we showed what the station «Narodnoye Opolcheniye» will look like.

Earlier online, a fantasy map of the Moscow metro up to 2100 appeared. It took into account the wishes of residents and experts.
