Ivan Yarygin Cup Begins with Over 30 Yakutia Wrestlers

The Ivan Yarygin Cup in freestyle wrestling has begun in Krasnoyarsk. The Yakutia men«s team includes 23 athletes and 3 legionnaires, while the women»s team has four. Wrestlers will compete in weight categories from 50 to 125 kilograms (110 to 275 lb). This was reported on January 29 by «Ulus Media».

On the first day of the tournament, preliminary bouts and semifinals will be held for women in weights from 50 to 65 kg (110 to 143 lb), as well as for men in categories from 57 to 70 kg (126 to 154 lb). On January 30, consolation matches will take place in the same weights, as well as preliminary bouts and semifinals for women in categories 53 and 57 kg (117 and 126 lb) and for men — 65, 79, and 125 kg (143, 174, and 275 lb). On January 31, consolation matches and qualifying bouts will continue in new weights, and on February 1, the tournament«s final matches will be held.

Award ceremonies will be held on January 30, 31, and February 1. The tournament will conclude with a closing ceremony. Live broadcasts of the competitions can be watched on the «Mammoth» TV channel, with semifinals shown by Sakha NVC.

Last year, silver medals at the Yarygin tournament were won by Yakutians Lev Palov and Konstantin Kaprynov. Bronze medals were taken by Alexander Avelov and Sevil Nazarova.
