Authorities have revealed how one of the neighborhoods in VIZ will change as part of a major redevelopment. The planning project has been put up for public discussion.

The development will cover an area of 344,000 square meters. It will be the fifth of seven microdistricts.

The large-scale project within the boundaries of the Verkh-Isetsky Pond embankment, and streets including Kamenshchikov, Frolova, Plotnikov, Tatishcheva, Vikulova, Metallurgov, Moskovsky Trakt, and Vodonsosnaya Street, involves the construction of housing, social infrastructure facilities, and new roads. It will be implemented in three stages. The first is planned for completion by 2031, the second from 2031 to 2036, and the last from 2036 to 2040.

The microdistrict within the boundaries of Kraulya, Lotsmanovykh, Metallurgov, and Yuri Islamov streets, which previously resembled an industrial zone, will transform into a residential quarter. Construction is already underway here, including the recent start of development on the site of the Novomoskovsky market — as we previously reported, the trade pavilions will gradually disappear as construction progresses.

The quarter will also feature gas stations, parking lots, kindergartens, a library, and a square. The plan also marks where bus and trolleybus stops will appear and reserves space for a future metro station. The work will also be divided into three stages, until 2040.

One of the major tasks of the VIZ redevelopment is the expansion and extension of Tatishcheva Street. A small section of the new road will cost 200 million rubles (approximately $2.2 million at current rates). For another section of Tatishcheva Street, apartments need to be purchased and residential buildings demolished. Recently, we reported on how many premises are already owned by the city hall.

Authorities planned to complete the expansion of Tatishcheva and the construction of adjacent streets by 2027, but the deadline may be postponed. Not long ago, authorities decided to modify the project to save a lake with endangered water lilies.
