The Yurga thermal power plant is currently unable to meet heating requirements for the 80,000-person city during abnormal frosts due to fuel problems. Mayor Alexei Fomin confirmed on social media on Tuesday, January 20, that coal has partially iced over and frozen in storage, corroborating earlier reports by NGS42.RU.
According to the mayor, last night there was a deviation from the temperature schedule for the heat carrier. As a result, radiators in residents« homes began to cool.
Given the current frosts in Yurga, the thermal plant was supposed to supply 115 degrees Celsius to the network, but in reality, the temperature was lower. As Fomin confirmed, the problem occurred at the station where coal froze due to the cold.
The mayor emphasized that the necessary fuel reserve was available, but it has partially become unusable for the boilers.
‘To resolve the current situation, we have requested an additional volume of gas. This will allow us to stabilize the situation soon and return to the 115-degree schedule. We are all on site, controlling the situation, and it will be corrected shortly,’ said the head of Yurga in a video.
Meanwhile, city residents wrote to the editorial office that heating interruptions have been observed since Friday, January 16. In some apartments, the thermometer allegedly dropped to -16 degrees Celsius (3°F).
Parents of students at School No. 9 stated that children are sitting in jackets during lessons due to the cold. According to residents, the temperature in classrooms has decreased.
This was confirmed to the NGS42.RU editorial office by the Ministry of Education of Kuzbass. A representative, citing the municipality, clarified that currently, the average temperature in the school building is from 19 degrees Celsius (66°F), which is within the norm.
‘To ensure optimal conditions, specialists from plumbing services have been called. In December 2025, work was done to adjust the window systems. The school administration monitors compliance with the temperature regime,’ the ministry told us.
In comments under Fomin«s post, residents noted that so far, it has only gotten warmer in their souls.
Earlier, the NGS42.RU editorial office called the city«s Unified Duty Dispatch Service (EDDS), but they denied problems at the thermal plant. However, a station employee told us the opposite. The interlocutor from the publication noted that coal froze right on the conveyor.
