Sirens and Gunfire: Police Detail Suzdalskoye Highway Chase in Yaroslavl

Early on the morning of 20 January, there was unrest on Suzdalskoye Highway in Yaroslavl. Police sirens and the sounds of gunshots were heard. The regional police department reported that traffic police officers were pursuing a violator in a car.
«At approximately 3:25 a.m. opposite house No. 2 on Suzdalskoye Highway in Yaroslavl, traffic police officers of the State Road Traffic Safety Inspectorate signaled for the driver of a VAZ-2115 car to stop. The driver ignored the demand, continued moving and tried to flee,» the police reported.
The law enforcement officers began a pursuit of the violator.
«During the pursuit, they repeatedly demanded the driver stop using a loudspeaker signal system, but he did not react,» the police department added.
According to police information, the violator, trying to escape the chase, created dangerous situations and violated traffic rules. Ultimately, the traffic police officers used firearms—they made several warning shots, as well as shots at the tires. As a result, the pursued vehicle was stopped.
The driver turned out to be a 21-year-old local resident who did not have the right to drive a vehicle.
The driver has been detained, and the car has been placed in an impound lot. There were no casualties as a result of the weapon«s use.
Administrative offense reports have been drawn up against the violator for Part 1, Article 19.3 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses («Disobedience to a lawful order of a police officer»); Part 2, Article 12.25 («Failure to comply with a lawful order of a police officer to stop a vehicle»); Part 1, Article 12.7 («Driving a vehicle by a person not having the right to drive a vehicle»); Part 1, Article 12.12 («Driving through a red traffic light»); Part 4, Article 12.15 («Driving into a lane intended for oncoming traffic»); and Part 1, Article 12.1 («Driving a vehicle not registered in the prescribed manner»).
In operational video footage, the violator stated that he regrets his actions.
