Yaroslavl Central Market not sold for 150.5 million rubles

In Yaroslavl, they failed to sell the Central Market on Deputatskaya Street for 150 million 497 thousand rubles (approximately $1.5 million at current rates). The auction was scheduled for 30 January 2026, but it was declared unsuccessful.
«No applications were submitted for participation or none of the applicants were recognized as participants,» according to the website of the Unified Information System for Procurement (EIS Torgi).
Recall that the Central Market was attempted to be sold at an auction back in November 2025. But at that time, no one was willing to buy the object. Four years prior, in 2021, the authorities also wanted to find a new owner for the market. Then, deputies and city residents opposed this. As a result, the city hall abandoned the idea. However, a small part of the market premises on Nakhimson Street was sold to the firm «Gallery».
The new owner, along with 100% of the shares of «Central Market,» will receive a covered trading pavilion and non-residential premises on Nakhimson Street in buildings No. 6/11 and 10, as well as on Andropov Street, 15. The total area of the real estate is 0.6719 hectares.
Reason for selling the market
The Yaroslavl Central Market belongs to the city. Previously, city authorities noted that the object does not bring significant income to the budget. Mayor Artem Molchanov emphasized that to bring the market into order, investments of hundreds of millions of rubles (millions of dollars at current rates) are required. The city does not have such capabilities.
«We certainly cannot afford to spend budget funds, city revenues, on investments in commercial real estate today. Therefore, for such objects, for restoration, for such active preservation, we need to attract private investments, attract extra-budgetary sources,» noted Artem Molchanov.
The mayor also emphasized that in place of the Central Market, cafes and restaurants could appear. The main requirement for the owner is to ensure the renewal and improvement of the object.
