The auction for the Central Market on Deputatskaya Street in Yaroslavl, scheduled for 30 January 2026, concluded without a buyer. The starting price for the property was 150,497,000 rubles (about $1.5 million at current rates).
The Unified Information System for Trade (EIS Torgi) website states the auction was declared invalid because «no bids were submitted, or none of the applicants were recognized as participants.»
This is the second failed attempt to sell the market in recent months. The first auction was held in November 2025 and also did not attract buyers. Back in 2021, city authorities tried to find a new owner for the property but abandoned the idea after protests from deputies and residents. However, part of the market«s premises on Nakhimson Street was previously sold to the company »Gallery.«
The lot included 100% of the shares of «Central Market,» a covered trading pavilion, and non-residential premises at the addresses: Nakhimson Street, buildings 6/11 and 10, and Andropov Street, 15. The total area of the real estate reaches 0.6719 hectares.
Why the city decided to sell the market
The Central Market is owned by the city of Yaroslavl, but, according to the authorities, it does not generate significant income for the municipal budget. Mayor Artem Molchanov has repeatedly stated that reconstruction and maintenance of the facility require investments of hundreds of millions of rubles, which the municipality lacks.
«We simply cannot afford today to spend budget funds, city revenues, on investing in commercial real estate. Therefore, for such objects, for their restoration and active preservation, we need to attract private investment, attract extra-budgetary sources,» noted Artem Molchanov.
The mayor also indicated that cafes and restaurants could potentially be located on the market«s territory. A mandatory condition for the new owner is to carry out work to update and improve the complex.
