New Cemetery Planned for Construction Near Tomsk

Tomsk will allocate almost 14 million rubles (approximately $140,000 at current rates) for surveys for the construction of a new city cemetery.
On Friday, January 30, the Tomsk City Duma approved the allocation of 13.7 million rubles (approximately $137,000 at current rates) for engineering surveys for a new cemetery near the village of Nelyubino in Tomsk District (approximately 35 kilometers from Tomsk). The funds will go to the capital construction department as part of amendments to the 2026 budget.
There are several cemeteries in Tomsk and Tomsk District. The main city cemetery, «Voronino» (near the village of Voronino, 10 kilometers from Tomsk), opened in 2007 and has since received over 60,000 burials. Previously, the main cemetery was «Baktin,» which has been closed to new burials since 2007 (only family interments are possible). In 2022, a new section, «Kurgan,» near Voronino was put into operation, designed for 65,000 plots. However, by 2024, fewer than 2,000 plots remained available, and issues with drainage and infrastructure were identified.
