A Thaw in Connectivity? Mobile Internet Shutdowns Become Less Frequent in Voronezh

Residents of Voronezh have experienced frequent mobile internet outages for security reasons over the past year.
The mobile internet shutdowns that began in Voronezh in the middle of last year continue. However, readers of Voronezh1.ru believe they have become less frequent and do not last as long.
“After the New Year, the shutdowns have become less frequent,” says one of our readers. “Before, it could be gone for several days, but now during the day it almost always works.”
Now, periodically, the connection in Voronezh does not disappear even after the announcement of a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) attack threat. This was the case, for example, on January 23, when the mobile internet worked for several hours after the announcement of a special regime. A similar situation occurred on Tuesday, when the attack threat was in effect for almost the entire day, but the connection was not limited.
At the same time, there have been no official comments on changes in security measures in recent weeks.
Mobile internet in Voronezh began to be shut down in May of last year, and the restrictions gradually became longer. If initially connection problems occurred only when a drone attack threat was announced or shortly before it, then later city residents were left without internet almost daily. It even reached shutdowns for several days.
By autumn, a “white list” of applications that work even during connection restrictions appeared. It includes domestic social networks and messengers, taxi services, marketplaces, video services, some media, applications of a number of banks, and government platforms. The full list can be found here.
