In the Sochi mountains from January 24 to February 1, it«s not just skiing, but a large gathering of skiers and snowboarders. The sports-music festival »Rosafest x SBP« is being held at the Rosa Khutor resort for the 11th time. Organizers expect at least 10,000 participants. Last season, the total audience exceeded 85,000 guests. Anyone can join at any stage, but many come to Sochi specifically for this gathering.

On opening day, a heavy snowfall hit the mountain slope, and according to riders« feedback, skiing was difficult – the snow quickly turned to »plasticine.« Extreme sports enthusiasts, tired of battling the elements, eagerly »hung out« at the festival»s interactive areas. The hum of the lifts hadn«t even died down when another life ignited on the slopes. DJs perform on the main stage, and the heated crowd turns all horizontal surfaces into a dance floor. So why do people come to the festival if they can just ski? The answer is simple: they«re not looking for a slope, but for their tribe. The event has long not been about the trails, but about the people who meet on them and become family.

Muscovite Yekaterina is a prime example of a spectator turning into a participant.

— Last year I came to the resort on an excursion, as a pedestrian, buying a sightseeing ticket. I saw this gathering, this own world, and I desperately wanted to be inside. But I was without equipment and could only watch. This time I came specifically for the festival. I belong here – among the riders, — shares Yekaterina.

The girl says that staying at a hotel at the ski resort is not necessary. She rented a bunk in a hostel in the village, rented skis – bringing her own on the plane was expensive. She bought a participant bracelet and intends to miss nothing.

Natalya came from Tula and says she waits for this event all year.

— In my city, I«m one of the few so obsessed with mountains. My friend doesn»t understand. I bought a board binding for 20,000 rubles (about $200 at current rates), and she – a dress for that amount and thinks the crazy one is me, not her. But here you leave the hotel, and around – hundreds of the same obsessed. Everyone«s eyes are shining. In one trip, I get more support and self-belief than in a year at home. I remember, I was afraid to get on a black trail. And the guys from our gathering just took and rode with me, insured, encouraged. And I succeeded! These people became my ski family, — the girl confides.

For many, a key motive is the opportunity to learn. Olesya, who has been snowboarding for three seasons as a self-taught, now takes lessons from festival instructors.

— I realized how important it is to start with a professional. I regret saving on training at the beginning – now I have to relearn. And that«s much harder. Penny wise, pound foolish, — she says.

Her friend, Olga, gives her arguments.

— Look, an hour of individual lesson at the resort in season costs from 6 to 7 thousand rubles and more (about $60–70 at current rates). A festival participant bracelet with access to the entire program costs 7500 rubles (about $75 at current rates). It turns out, this is a whole week of entertainment plus free lessons with certified instructors, not with street impostors. For me, it«s profitable, — the girl summarizes.

The girls are talking about master classes by famous riders organized by the «SBP Sports Academy.» Last year, thousands of guests took advantage of the free learning opportunity. This season, the program has been expanded: separate courses for beginners and a women«s group have appeared, where tricks and techniques are taught by female trainers considering physiology. Experienced riders can improve their carving, jibbing, or freeride.

Heart of Extreme: Park, Slalom, and Sunrise Descent

The festival«s sports program balances between spectacular professionalism and engaging amateur environment. The updated snow park, equipped with its own automatic lift, is divided into training and professional lines.

Here, life boils all day: beginners master basic elements next to pro-riders, who are preparing for freestyle contests with a total prize fund of over 700,000 rubles (about $7,000 at current rates). A separate contest will be held with the support of the Russian Olympic Committee.

On the «Triton» track, the Krasnodar Krai Championship in parallel slalom is planned with open runs for amateurs. And for those looking for a unique experience, an exclusive sunrise descent on perfectly prepared morning corduroy is organized, while the entire resort is still asleep. Access is free for those who have issued a limited VTB card with the festival design.

Music in the Mountains and Mass Entertainment

The festival«s infrastructure is designed to include everyone in the celebration. For parents, the Riders Children»s Club operates with educators and even babysitting services for toddlers, allowing adults to ski or relax peacefully.

Families can participate in the general interactive «Big Game» or send children to the traditional «Khutoryonok» Cup – amateur competitions for young athletes from 5 to 14 years old.

For families and those looking for a break between descents and concerts, the «Vysokko in the mountains» recreation area operates with games in the snow. Simple entertainments: «throw a bag into a hole» or «find a matching card» – almost always imply a prize. These are useful little things on the slope: a hand warmer or even just a free cup of hot tea, which is priceless in the cold.

To create an intimate atmosphere, «Kuper» has set up a «apartment concert at height» – this is a space with the interior of a home party and a view of the snow-capped peaks.

For coziness, an exhibition of pickled cucumbers was organized here. After the festival, the jars were promised to be given out as prizes to participants. And the green bathroom is actually a photo booth. Everyone can climb into the shower without taking off their skis and take a group photo.

On the schedule – BBQ parties, and it is here on January 28 that the legendary «Choir for the Entire Yard» will take place, allowing guests to shout out in the mountains to cult hits.

The culmination will be the closing evening on January 31, where both well-known Russian artists and the world breakdance star LADY WAKS will take the stage.

The festival has long ceased to be just a calendar event. As participants tell, people come here to become part of a special world for a few days, where everyone speaks the same language – the language of speed, freedom, and common fun.
