Many people want to start doing something on Monday, such as exercising, eating right, walking 10,000 steps a day, meditating in the mornings, learning English, or reading 20 pages a day. But there are those who want to change their lives in the new year. We asked Novosibirsk residents how they feel about this and what they want to change.

Reader Marina believes that it«s foolish to force yourself to read, walk, and exercise, because success comes only if you do it all with pleasure:

“The New Year is, of course, a time for miracles, but I don«t think it»s possible to just be reborn overnight. And to become a different person on January 1, who exercises, reads books, and learns foreign languages. When we paint some ideal image of ourselves, based on fashion and those around us, we are doomed to failure and disappointment in ourselves.”

She adds: Force yourself to go to the gym on Friday evening when you always spent that time at the bar? Rush to English class on Saturday morning when before you lounged in bed until lunch? That«s utopia.

But Marina recommends choosing from all useful activities the one that you like and suits you best. For example, she herself loves swimming, so going to the pool for Marina is not an obligation but a pleasure. What you like easily becomes a habit.

“Another example is with foreign languages. Probably, I could only force myself to speak them if I already had a ticket to another country under my pillow where I would need to know a foreign language. Therefore, I never outline tasks for the New Year. At the same time, making a wish at the stroke of the clock is sacred,” Marina is sure.

Reader Tatyana really wants to start walking 10,000 steps a day from 2026, but doesn«t understand how to implement it:

“But where to walk? All the sidewalks are covered in snow, like ice slides.”

But there are also those who have already managed in 2025 to do what was planned: reader Vasily already goes to the gym after work three times a week.

Write in the comments what new habits you want to introduce from 2026.
