On January 27, a lecture titled «Post-War Leningrad» will be held at the Mayakovsky Library. The event is dedicated to the life of the city that survived the war and the blockade, and its restoration in the first years after the Victory. Admission is free, with an age restriction of 12+.
During the blockade, over three thousand buildings were completely destroyed, and more than seven thousand were damaged. Active restoration of Leningrad began even during the war.
Two months after the complete lifting of the blockade, the State Defense Committee of the USSR adopted a resolution on priority measures for the restoration of industry and municipal services. The priority areas were housing stock, utilities, transport, and industry. Already in 1945, Leningrad«s industry slightly exceeded the plan for gross output.
In 1946, the State Memorial Museum of the Defense and Blockade of Leningrad opened, but six years later it was closed for many decades. The postwar daily life of citizens, the restoration of education, science, culture, and medicine, as well as the subsequent «Leningrad Affair,» will be discussed by Larisa Khrychikova, head of the rare publications sector at the Mayakovsky Library.
The lecture will take place on January 27 in the reading room of the library at Fontanka Embankment, 44. It begins at 6:00 PM.
