Chagall's Love in Movement: Maly Theater Premiere

The premiere of the play «Above Chagall»s City« is scheduled for January 27 at the Maly Puppet Theater. Director Nadia Almukhametova defines her work as a mystification, where factual details intertwine with artistic fiction, reflecting the style of the artist himself.
The central figure of the narrative is not Chagall himself, but his first wife Bella Rosenfeld — a writer and muse, whose image and memory shaped the inner world of the master.
The production explores love as a fundamental force in Chagall«s universe, which defies the earthly and even death. This invisible energy explains why his characters seem to detach from the ground.
The creators consciously avoided direct theatrical illustration of famous paintings. Instead, they sought to convey the very principle of the artist«s vision: the transformation of a detail into a symbol, a domestic scene into a phantasmagoria, and a human body into a flying line.
The physical language was chosen as the most suitable for this task. It appeals to sensory perception, moving from concreteness to abstraction and from an event to its echo in memory. Thus, the play demonstrates how genuine feeling transcends time, becoming the only reality.
The age restriction for viewing is 12+.
