Zabaikalsky Krai bought new regional studies textbooks, then stopped

The textbook was developed by historians from Zabaikalsky Krai.
The Ministry of Education of Zabaikalsky Krai purchased 6,000 new textbooks on Zabaikalsky Krai studies for students in grades 10 and 11 but will not buy more. This was reported to Chita.Ru by the ministry in response to an official request.
«In December 2025, 6,000 copies of the two-part textbook »Zabaikalsky Krai Studies, History of Zabaikalsky Krai« for grades 10–11 were purchased centrally. It was developed within the framework of the Year of Cultural Heritage Objects,» the ministry said.
They also noted that they do not plan to purchase more textbooks, as Zabaikalsky Krai studies is not a compulsory subject according to the federal program and educational standards. They added that this is related to the introduction of the course «History of Our Region.»
The Ministry of Education of Zabaikalsky Krai introduced the subject «Zabaikalsky Krai Studies» for students in grades 5–9 in the region«s schools in 2017. The course consisted of six educational modules developed taking into account the regional, national, and ethno-cultural specifics of Zabaikalsky Krai: regional literature, culture of peoples, geography, history, wildlife, and sustainable development of the region.
For students in grades 10 and 11, it was decided to introduce a course on the history of the native region, and a textbook for it was developed in 2024.
In December 2025, during a round table in Chita, the issue of a shortage of Zabaikalsky Krai studies textbooks, including for students in grades 5–9, was discussed. Vladimir Dmitriev, founder of the Genesis network of book and stationery stores, noted that the old textbooks are wearing out and new ones are purchased in insufficient quantities.
