Moscow Teacher Competition Introduces Nomination Tied to Special Military Operation

The capital will host the annual professional competition «Moscow Teachers of the Year» for the 36th time, with winners selected in several categories including a new one dedicated to patriotic education, Deputy Mayor for Social Development Anastasia Rakova said.
«The capital is proud of its teachers and strives to create all conditions for their effective and comfortable work, as well as to increase the prestige of their profession. Professional competitions are another way to highlight the importance of this profession. We invite all Moscow teachers to showcase their professional achievements, tell about themselves, and exchange experience within the competition. Applications can be submitted until February 5. This year, the main innovation will be a new nomination recognizing teachers who have made a special contribution to patriotic education, support for soldiers of the special military operation, and new regions. It will be named after hero and Moscow teacher Gennady Starunov,» Rakova said.
Gennady Starunov had worked as a life safety teacher at the school named after Marshal V.I. Chuykov since 2013. He won the «Moscow Teacher of the Year» nomination in 2022 and was a laureate of the All-Russian «Teacher of the Year Russia» competition. He joined the special military operation in October 2022 and died in 2025 while on a combat mission.
The nomination dedicated to Starunov will select educators who have contributed significantly to military-patriotic education of schoolchildren. Other categories cover key pedagogical areas, with competitions for subject teachers, educators, psychologists, defectologists, additional education specialists, and novice teachers. The application process is already underway.
