Yakut Man Gets Suspended Sentence for Half-Kilo Gold Transport

A 42-year-old man from Yakutia has been given a 2.5-year suspended sentence for illegally transporting half a kilogram of gold. He must also pay a fine of 200,000 rubles (approximately $2,200 at current rates).

A 42-year-old resident of the Momsky District of Yakutia has received a 2.5-year suspended sentence for illegal possession of gold on a large scale. He was transporting half a kilogram of gold worth 5.3 million rubles (approximately $57,600 at current rates). This was reported on January 28 by the press service of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) for the republic.
The precious metal was valued according to the Central Bank of Russia«s exchange rate. Investigators from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) for the Oymyakonsky District collected enough evidence to punish the offender. In addition to the suspended sentence, the man must pay a fine of 200,000 rubles (approximately $2,200 at current rates). The seized gold has been turned over to the state.
In September 2025, FSB officers seized the precious metal from another gold thief — an employee of one of the region«s mining companies. He had over 4 kilograms of gold worth more than 35 million rubles (approximately $380,400 at current rates) in his possession.
