A 63-year-old local woman contacted police in Buguruslan (Orenburg Region, Russia).

She reported that an uninvited guest had broken a window and entered her house, which was temporarily unoccupied. He did not take any valuables, but stole 24 books. These were works of classic literature: a 12-volume collection of Leo Tolstoy«s works, a six-volume set of Victor Hugo»s, and others.

Criminal investigation officers questioned potential witnesses and detained a 34-year-old resident of Buguruslan with multiple prior convictions. He confessed that he intended to sell the books, and some of them were seized, though he had already managed to sell some. A criminal case has been initiated on charges of theft (Article 158 of the Russian Criminal Code). An investigation is underway.
