Police established that a 69-year-old Stavropol resident and his 23-year-old son purchased tobacco products from an unknown individual to later sell them in Zelenokumsk. They planned to conduct the trade in an underground auto shop. Of course, all the goods were without mandatory marking.

It turned out there was quite a lot of product — about 3,000 packs of various assortments with a total value of 2 million rubles (approximately $22,000 at current rates), regional police reported.

The Stavropol residents did not succeed in making money. Employees of the Directorate for Economic Security and Combating Corruption of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Stavropol Territory stopped the activity.

A criminal case was initiated against the men under Article 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, «Production, acquisition, storage, transportation, or sale of goods and products without marking and (or) application of information provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation.» Under this article, they could face a fine, forced labor, or deprivation of liberty for up to 6 years.

The lawsuit was filed by the film studio «Soyuzmultfilm», the Soviet animation studio. The company is demanding compensation from a local individual entrepreneur for the illegal use of the character image from the cartoon «Crocodile Gena».
