Son in Volgograd beats mother to death on January 2

Investigative authorities in Volgograd Oblast have initiated a criminal case after the death of a 76-year-old woman who was beaten by her own son.

«On January 2, a 76-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with a head injury and bilateral rib fractures from a house on Titova Street,» reported the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Volgograd Oblast. «After three weeks, the woman died from her injuries.»

The case is classified under Part 4, Article 111 of the Russian Criminal Code.

The suspect, a 37-year-old man, previously convicted for causing grievous bodily harm, has been detained. According to investigators, he could not clearly explain the motives for the attack, citing a sudden outburst of aggression.

Currently, the investigation intends to petition for the accused«s arrest in court.
